What are fillers?

Fillers, also called dermal fillers, are cosmetic injections that enhance your look by adding volume under your skin. Dr. Rains is an expert in cosmetic dermatology and uses fillers to:

  • Smooth out lines and wrinkles
  • Add fullness to cheeks
  • Fill in depressed acne scars
  • Create facial symmetry
  • Plump up thin lips
  • Lift a down-turned mouth

As you get older, your skin thins because of a decrease in collagen production and a loss of some of the subcutaneous layer of fat underneath your skin. Without this structural support and volume, your skin sags, creating lines and creases. Fillers restore this lost volume, giving you back a more youthful look.

What can I expect during a fillers consultation?

Dr. Rains has specialized training in fillers and conducts a thorough evaluation during your consultation before making any specific recommendations. He reviews your concerns and goals, asks about your medical history, and examines your skin.

Then, he spends time talking to you about fillers and how they can help you achieve your goals. He creates your personalized filler treatment plan and reviews it with you. At Beacon Dermatology, Dr. Rains aims to give you the most natural aesthetic outcome possible.

What happens during treatment with fillers?

Dr. Rains performs all filler treatments in-office. He believes in patient safety and comfort, and provides the individual attention you expect when undergoing cosmetic dermatology treatments.

Prior to your filler injections, Dr. Rains cleans your skin with an antiseptic agent and applies numbing lotion to reduce discomfort. He then expertly administers the fillers into the specific areas of your skin to achieve a desired and natural look.

What is the healing process like after filler treatment?

You may notice some redness and swelling at the site of your filler injections. Dr. Rains recommends ice packs to ease discomfort. He may also advice you to skip strenuous physical activity for two days to prevent bruising.

You should see improvements in your look right away. Fillers last six or more months*. Dr. Rains may recommend adding other cosmetic treatments like Botox® to your care plan to create a balanced look.
